The Purpose of Calibration

Home // The Purpose of Calibration

There are many pieces of technical equipment that run our lives today, from our transport methods like the altimeters in planes, to the temperature monitoring/control of our food and drink. We expect these things to be accurate and to run safely, and to do this we need to calibrate our equipment. In this blog, we’ll explain the three main purposes for calibration.

Purpose 1: Accuracy

If a piece of equipment is producing inaccurate measurements, the decisions we make based on those measurements are likely to be wrong. When we have calibrated our equipment, we know the margin of error to expect and can safely decide the next steps.

Purpose 2: Reliability

In our previous blog, we discussed the different types of calibration such as mechanical, electrical, temperature and pressure. Depending on the kind of equipment that you are calibrating, the process will be different. To gain reliable measurements we need to use the most appropriate scales and systems for the type of equipment. Calibrating with the correct tools and processes means you can rely on your results to be safe.

Purpose 3: Consistency

Around the world we all use similar types of equipment in our daily tasks. The first level of consistency we expect with calibrated instruments is that their measurements and results will meet international standards, and be consistent around the world. The second level of consistency is where we calibrate a piece of equipment more than once to ensure the results are repeatable. Mobile Test n Cal are an accredited lab in NATA and international standards.

Which industries need to calibrate their equipment?
The range of industries with equipment that requires regular calibration is highly diverse. At Mobile Test n Cal, we have experienced technicians to assist in many industries, such as:

  • Electrical

  • Education

  • Manufacturing

  • Mechanical & Engineering

  • Mining

  • Oil & Gas

  • Transport (Rail, Aviation, Automotive)

  • Health

If there is another industry you’d like calibration services for, feel free to get in touch with our team for more information.

Onsite calibrations to minimise your downtime

Mobile Test n Cal provide onsite calibrations which help minimise downtime and disruptions to your workflow while maintaining safety in your industry. We take our role in your work safety very seriously. We calibrate our own testing equipment often to ensure the accuracy of our results. We work to international standards that provide reliable results, and we test more than once looking for repeated results to ensure consistency. To organise calibration services at your workplace, simply call us on 1300 662 199 in Australia or 0800 123 682 in New Zealand. You can also submit a message online and we’ll be in touch soon.
