The Types of Calibration

Home // The Types of Calibration

Different types of equipment require different types of calibration to test their accuracy. Below are four of the most common types of calibration, as well as the importance of using an accredited calibration service. Here are some of the most common forms of calibration required in most industries.

Mechanical
Mechanical calibration is used on dimensional, force, mass, vibration, and torque equipment. This includes tools such as torque wrenches, micrometres, Verniers, and many more. Ideally, it should be performed in a temperature-controlled environment. With mobile labs for onsite services and a 24-48-hour turnaround from our static labs, Mobile Test ‘n’ Cal can easily fulfil this requirement.

Electrical
Electrical equipment is calibrated for frequency, voltage, and resistance. This category covers tools like clamp meters, multifunction testers, and power system simulators. It is important to ensure the calibrators being used for this work are accurate. All our electrical calibrators are calibrated by a NATA accredited laboratory to ensure the highest accuracy.

Temperature
Temperature and humidity instruments should also be calibrated in a controlled environment to avoid outside changes from affecting the results. This type of calibration can be used for thermal cameras, meters, probes, IR guns, and similar instruments.

Pressure
Pressure calibration encompasses any equipment with hydraulic or pneumatic pressure. For example, transmitters, test gauges, gas monitors, or hydraulic crimpers.

There are many more types of equipment – such as sound, light – with each requiring technical skills to test and calibrate correctly.

Even with knowledge of the four most common categories of calibration, your best option for compliance and safety is to partner with a certified calibration lab. Our technicians have the expertise to perform all types of calibration and will ensure your equipment works as it should.
